Ingredients

  • 2 fresh bagels (plain, sesame, everything, or your preferred flavor)
  • 4 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
  • 4–6 ounces lox or smoked salmon
  • 1 small tomato, thinly sliced
  • ¼ red onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons capers
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
  • Lemon wedges for serving (optional)

Equipment

  • Sharp knife
  • Butter knife or spreader
  • Cutting board
  • Toaster (optional)
  • Serving plate

Method

  1. Slice the bagels horizontally into two equal halves.
  2. Toast the bagel halves for 2–3 minutes if you prefer a slightly crisp texture.
  3. Spread about 2 tablespoons of softened cream cheese across each bagel half.
  4. Arrange the lox evenly over the cream cheese layer.
  5. Add tomato slices, red onion, capers, and fresh dill.
  6. Serve immediately with lemon wedges or your favorite breakfast drink.

Notes

  • Let cream cheese soften before spreading to avoid tearing the bagel.
  • For a lighter option, use whipped cream cheese or a smaller bagel.
  • Everything bagels add extra seasoning, while plain bagels let the lox flavor stand out more.
  • Assemble close to serving time to keep the bagel texture fresh.
  • Store leftover ingredients separately in the refrigerator rather than keeping assembled bagels overnight.
